ANALYSIS: Not one of the better ball-clubs in college basketball, JMU should be a fairly easy win for most capable opponents. Carrying a record of 14-19, they are currently rated #278 overall (out of 353) in All-Play Percentage this season. They are also ranked by this site as the #9 team (out of 10) in the Colonial (average ranking 215.5).
JMU will certainly not be one of the stingier defenses opponents will encounter. Allowing more than 108 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked down at #282 in defensive efficiency. JMU does a less-than-adequate job to prevent opponents from scoring off of the offensive glass. The team allows AO to convert 7.2% of all second-chance opportunities (290th nationally).
JMU doesn't rate much better on offense than they do on defense. Scoring roughly 98 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #260 in the nation in offensive efficiency. JMU fares worse than most teams when it comes to converting from locations close to the hoop. The team is ranked 302nd in near-proximity field goal percentage, making only 54.6% of their attempts from up-close vs. AO.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
JMU does worse vs. clubs that prefer the outside shot. When playing squads that have an offensive shooting proximity score vs. AO greater than 2.06, JMU performs above average 31% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 72% of the time.
