ANALYSIS: Not one of the better ball-clubs in college basketball, Troy should be a fairly easy win for most capable opponents. They are ranked #289 (out of 353) in the most recent Haslametrics ratings and have a record of 9-22. Of the 12 schools in the Sun Belt (average ranking 172.8), they're currently ranked as the worst team in the conference.
Troy is not one of the better offensive teams you will find. They are rated #278 in efficiency on that end of the court and only score about 93 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO. Troy struggles to drain shots consistently from most spots on the floor, ranking in the bottom-50 in three of the four primary field goal shooting categories. They are worse off shooting inside the three-point stripe, making good on just 33.0% of their mid-range jumpers (325th in the nation), 51.8% of their near-proximity chances (334th), and 39.5% of their total shots from the field (330th) vs. AO.
Troy doesn't rate much better on defense than they do on offense. Allowing roughly 104 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #273 in the nation in defensive efficiency. Troy has done a pretty poor job this season to prevent opponents from making shots from the inside. The team is ranked 327th in the country in defensive near-proximity percentage, allowing AO to make good on 65.3% of their attempts from close-up.
Troy has been playing some of their worst basketball of the season as of late, and they're presently ranked 335th in positive momentum because of it.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Troy is typically better vs. teams that convert well from the charity stripe. Against foes that have an adjusted free throw percentage vs. AO greater than 0.68%, Troy performs above their norm 60% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 22% of the time.
When facing teams that fail to defend efficiently inside the paint, Troy often performs worse than normal. Troy is more efficient than usual 27% of the time when facing teams that have a defensive near-proximity field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 62.18%. In their other contests, Troy performs better than the norm 61% of the time.
