ANALYSIS: Texas Tech is a top-25 caliber squad that should be able to remain competitive with most, if not all, teams in the country. Ranked 20th overall (out of 351) in our most recent ratings, they presently have a record of 27-10. Of the 10 schools in the Big 12 (average ranking 38.9), they're currently ranked as our #3 team in the conference.
Texas Tech will suffocate most opponents with its stifling defense. Allowing roughly 90 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO, this squad is rated #5 in defensive efficiency. Texas Tech will put a good dent in the shooting percentages of several opponents, considering the team ranks in the top-50 in each of the four major defensive shooting categories. They allow AO to make just 32.0% of their three-pointers (26th in the nation), 33.1% of their mid-range shots (20th), 51.9% of their near-proximity attempts (14th), and 39.4% of their total shots from the field (12th). Texas Tech also has extremely pesky defenders that ceaselessly attempt to deny opponents ample opportunity to shoot. The club is ranked 15th in Division I in defensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 76.92 vs. AO.
Texas Tech plays at about the same level on offense as they do on defense. The team ranks 48th nationally in offensive efficiency, scoring about 111 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Texas Tech does a super job in their efforts to get to the free throw line. With a free throw attempt rate of 32.37 vs. AO, they are ranked eighth in the nation at getting to the charity stripe, where the team shoots a rather mediocre 70.4%. Texas Tech is also one of the better teams in the country when it comes to converting scoring chances off of offensive rebounds. Against AO, the team successfully converts 9.2% of all second-chance opportunities (ranked 27th nationally), and with a rating of 17.58, they're 47th in potential points scored off of the offensive glass as well.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
