ANALYSIS: Not one of the better ball-clubs in college basketball, UTSA should be a fairly easy win for most capable opponents. They have a record of 10-22 and are ranked 298th overall (out of 363) in the latest Haslametrics ratings. Of the 11 schools in Conference USA (average ranking 148.7), they're currently ranked as the worst team in the conference.
UTSA does not provide much of a challenge on defense. They are ranked at #316 in efficiency on that end of the court and give up about 110 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO. UTSA struggles on occasion to deny opponents opportunities to shoot from the floor. The team is ranked 326th in the nation in defensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 88.12 vs. AO. UTSA also does a pretty inadequate job to provide chances for themselves to score quickly off of steals. They're ranked #324 in potential points off of breakaway steals with a rating of only 7.93 vs. AO.
Though they rate better on offense than they do on defense, UTSA still isn't one of the more capable offensive teams in college hoops. Scoring roughly 99 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #248 in the nation in offensive efficiency. UTSA won't provide opponents much of a scare with their shooting percentage from the inside. The team is ranked 326th in near-proximity field goal percentage, making only 53.6% of their attempts from up-close vs. AO.
UTSA has been playing much better basketball as of late and is presently ranked 16th in positive momentum because of it. UTSA is also one of the more consistent teams in Division I (presently ranked 28th in consistency), so forecasting the outcomes of their future contests tends to be easier than the norm.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
UTSA is typically better vs. teams that do not defend well on the perimeter. Against foes that have a defensive three-point field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 34.09%, UTSA performs above their norm 67% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 17% of the time.
When facing teams that convert more frequently off of offensive rebounds, UTSA often performs worse than normal. UTSA is more efficient than usual 25% of the time when facing teams that have an offensive second-chance conversion percentage vs. AO greater than 5.27%. In their other contests, UTSA performs better than the norm 71% of the time.
UTSA does better vs. clubs that aren't terribly skilled defensively. When playing squads that have a defensive efficiency rating vs. AO greater than 100.22, UTSA performs above average 63% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 18% of the time.
