ANALYSIS: Regardless of what the win percentage says, UT Martin isn't a very good team this year. Their record this season is 22-13, and the club is ranked 224th overall (out of 351) in Haslametrics' most recent ratings. They are also ranked by this site as the #7 team (out of 12) in the OVC (average ranking 212.4).
UT Martin does not provide much of a challenge on defense. They are ranked at #252 in efficiency on that end of the court and give up about 107 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO. UT Martin performs really badly when attempting to stop opponents from making mid-range jumpers. The squad is ranked 339th nationally in defensive mid-range field goal percentage, allowing AO to make good on 41.6% of their attempts from those in-between spots on the floor. UT Martin is also one of the very worst teams in the game when it comes to preventing opponents from scoring off of offensive rebounds. The team allows AO to convert 8.8% of all second-chance opportunities (328th nationally).
Though they rate better on offense than they do on defense, UT Martin still isn't one of the more capable offensive teams in college hoops. Scoring roughly 99 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #200 in the nation in offensive efficiency. UT Martin is not one of the better teams at drawing fouls and getting to the free throw line. With a free throw attempt rate of just 24.02 vs. AO, they are 294th in the overall rankings for that category. If UT Martin does have a strength offensively, it would have to be the team's knack for obtaining second-chance opportunities from offensive rebounds. The squad has a rating of 17.71 in potential points off of second chances vs. AO, which ranks 29th in all of college hoops.
UT Martin has been one of the more erratic teams in NCAA basketball this year (presently ranked 313th in the country in consistency), which makes forecasting the outcomes of their upcoming games tougher than most.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
UT Martin performs better against squads that favor a faster tempo. When facing teams that have a pace vs. AO greater than 69.86, UT Martin is more efficient than normal 65% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 10% of the time.
When playing teams that allow opponents to shoot well from the field, UT Martin usually performs better than average. UT Martin is more efficient than normal 65% of the time when facing clubs that have a defensive field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 44.18%. In all other contests, UT Martin performs better than average 10% of the time.
UT Martin is typically better vs. teams that fail to defend efficiently inside the paint. Against foes that have a defensive near-proximity field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 61.19%, UT Martin performs above their norm 71% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 25% of the time.
