ANALYSIS: While not an atrocious team by any means, Tarleton is not exactly one that should appear in many top-100 rankings either. They are ranked #199 (out of 358) in the most recent Haslametrics ratings and have a record of 14-17. They are also ranked by this site as the #8 team (out of 13) in the WAC (average ranking 193.9).
Based on their performances this year, Tarleton will likely find more success on defense than they will on offense. Allowing about 100 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO and favoring a more deliberate, half-court style of play (the 20th-slowest pace in D1), they currently occupy the #162 slot in the ratings for defensive efficiency. Tarleton has extremely pesky defenders that ceaselessly attempt to deny opponents ample opportunity to shoot. The club is ranked 23rd in Division I in defensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 78.75 vs. AO.
Tarleton doesn't perform as well offensively as they do defensively. The team is ranked 239th in offensive efficiency, scoring about 97 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. Tarleton won't provide opponents much of a scare with their shooting percentage from the inside. The team is ranked 331st in near-proximity field goal percentage, making only 52.8% of their attempts from up-close vs. AO. If Tarleton does have a strength offensively, it would have to be the team's care for the ball. The squad has a rating of 9.30 in potential points allowed off of steals vs. AO, which ranks 46th in the college game.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Tarleton does better vs. clubs that are more proficient at draining the mid-range shot. When playing squads that have an offensive mid-range field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 37.71%, Tarleton performs above average 80% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 28% of the time.

In their other contests, the team is more efficient 35% of the time.
When playing teams that are likely to allow more second chances off of offensive rebounds, Tarleton usually performs better than average. Tarleton is more efficient than normal 75% of the time when facing clubs that have a defensive second-chance potential point rate vs. AO greater than 14.51.
