ANALYSIS:
Saint Mary's has a fairly solid squad that likely falls within the top quartile of all teams in college basketball this year. They are ranked #45 (out of 353) in the most recent Haslametrics ratings and have a record of 26-8. Of the 10 schools in the WCC (average ranking 124.1), they're currently ranked as our #3 team in the conference.

Saint Mary's will create problems for opponents with their extremely prolific offense. Scoring roughly 111 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO and embracing a style of play that will try to grind things to a crawl (the eighth-slowest pace in D1), the squad is rated #16 in offensive efficiency. Saint Mary's is a very dangerous team when it comes to shooting the rock, ranking in the top-25 in three of our four major field goal categories. They can be considered sharpshooters out on the perimeter, converting 38.8% of their three-pointers (fifth in the nation), 43.2% of their mid-range chances (sixth), and 47.6% of their total shots from the field (14th) vs. AO. Saint Mary's also allows very few breakaway opportunities for the opposition, which typically translates to fewer turnovers. The team's rating vs. AO for potential breakaway points allowed off of steals is 7.54, which ranks #6 in the country. Saint Mary's is lastly deadly accurate at the free throw line. Making 77.2% of their attempts from the stripe, they are ranked 20th nationally in free throw percentage. If Saint Mary's does have a weakness offensively, it would have to be the team's difficulties obtaining second-chance opportunities from offensive rebounds. The squad only has a rating of 10.17 vs. AO in potential points off of second chances, which ranks 43rd-worst in college hoops.

Saint Mary's is also a fairly decent team on the defensive end of the court. The team ranks 114th nationally in defensive efficiency, allowing about 97 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Saint Mary's does a fairly satisfactory job to deny opponents chances to score off of the offensive glass. They have a rating of 11.22 vs. AO in potential points allowed off of second chances (ranked 58th in the country).

When playing on the road, Saint Mary's has played their best basketball this season. The team is currently ranked 17th in the country in the away-from-home metric our site tracks.
