ANALYSIS: Not one of the better ball-clubs in college basketball, North Texas should be a fairly easy win for most capable opponents. Ranked 299th overall (out of 351) in our most recent ratings, they presently have a record of 8-22. They are also ranked by this site as the #13 team (out of 14) in Conference USA (average ranking 202.4).
North Texas is not one of the most productive teams on offense. Scoring fewer than 94 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are rated at #306 in offensive efficiency. North Texas is downright rotten when shooting the mid-range jumper. The team is ranked tenth from the bottom in field goal percentage from that distance, making only 30.7% of their mid-range attempts vs. AO. North Texas also won't enter the conversation if you're looking to list the best three-point shooting teams in the country. They are ranked 313th in three-point field goal percentage nationally and make just 31.6% of their attempts from long vs. AO.
North Texas doesn't rate much better on defense than they do on offense. Allowing roughly 108 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #283 in the nation in defensive efficiency. North Texas fares terribly when attempting to stop opponents from converting from the inside. The team is ranked 328th in the country in defensive near-proximity percentage, allowing AO to make good on 67.0% of their attempts from close-up. On a positive note, AO will take nowhere near as many inside shots as they typically would and, as a result, only 28.6% of AO's field goal attempts will come from short-distance.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
When facing teams that fail to defend efficiently inside the paint, North Texas often performs worse than normal. North Texas is more efficient than usual 17% of the time when facing teams that have a defensive near-proximity field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 62.88%. In their other contests, North Texas performs better than the norm 69% of the time.
North Texas does worse vs. clubs that prefer the outside shot. When playing squads that have an offensive shooting proximity score vs. AO greater than 2.05, North Texas performs above average 13% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 60% of the time.
North Texas performs worse against squads that allow a greater number of field goal opportunities. When facing teams that have a defensive field goal attempt rate vs. AO greater than 81.28, North Texas is more efficient than normal 32% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 78% of the time.
