ANALYSIS:
A top-25 caliber adversary, Houston will likely be a stiff test for any team in Division I. Haslametrics has them ranked 24th overall (out of 353) in All-Play Percentage, and the team holds a record of 23-8. Of the 12 schools in the AAC (average ranking 94.6), they're currently ranked as the best team in the conference.

Houston will suffocate most opponents with its stifling defense. Allowing roughly 89 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO, this squad is rated #21 in defensive efficiency. Houston does a fantastic job to prevent opposing teams from capitalizing on chances from offensive rebounds. The squad allows AO to convert only 2.9% of all second-chance opportunities (ranked third in the NCAA), and with a rating of 9.58, they're eighth in potential points allowed off of the offensive glass as well. Houston will also put a good dent in the shooting percentages of several opponents, considering the team ranks in the top-50 in each of the four major defensive shooting categories. They allow AO to make just 29.9% of their three-pointers (20th in the nation), 33.1% of their mid-range shots (34th), 53.5% of their near-proximity attempts (37th), and 38.3% of their total shots from the field (11th).

Houston plays at about the same level on offense as they do on defense. The team ranks 30th nationally in offensive efficiency, scoring about 109 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Houston is one of the very best when it comes to maximizing field goal opportunities. The team is ranked third in the NCAA in offensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 89.34 vs. AO. As far as making those field goal attempts goes, the team is somewhat middle-of-the-road, converting about 43.6% of them vs. AO. Houston also loves taking the mid-range two, far more so than most other teams. The club is ranked eighth in ratio of mid-range attempts to total field goal attempts. As far as converting those mid-range shots goes, the team shoots a mediocre 38.2% vs. AO. Houston lastly allows very few breakaway opportunities for the opposition, which typically translates to fewer turnovers. The team's rating vs. AO for potential breakaway points allowed off of steals is 8.51, which ranks #17 in the country.

Houston is one of the most consistent teams in NCAA basketball (currently ranked fifth in consistency), which makes the outcomes of their upcoming games far easier to predict.
SORTABLE SCHEDULE / RESULTS:
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location.
Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Houston performs worse against squads that convert well from the charity stripe. When facing teams that have an adjusted free throw percentage vs. AO greater than 0.71%, Houston is more efficient than normal 9% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 55% of the time.
When playing teams that have trouble defending the mid-range shot, Houston usually performs worse than average. Houston is more efficient than normal 27% of the time when facing clubs that have a defensive mid-range field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 34.76%. In all other contests, Houston performs better than average 67% of the time.
Houston is typically worse vs. teams that aren't terribly skilled defensively. Against foes that have a defensive efficiency rating vs. AO greater than 91.40, Houston performs above their norm 27% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 67% of the time.
