ANALYSIS:
As one of the worst teams in NCAA basketball, Savannah State should be a pushover for the average-to-good squads in Division I. Ranked tenth from the bottom overall (out of 353) in our most recent ratings, they presently have a record of 11-20. Of the 12 schools in the MEAC (average ranking 324.7), they're currently ranked as our #10 team in the conference. With a strength-of-schedule rating of 0.308 (which ranks 337th in the nation), Savannah State has faced some of the easiest opponents in all of college basketball.

Savannah State has a very sieve-like defense that gives up points way too easily. The team is ranked fifth from the bottom in efficiency on that end of the court and gives up more than 116 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. Savannah State allows opposing teams far too many easy chances from the floor, ranking in the bottom-50 in three of the four main defensive field goal shooting categories. AO will convert a healthy 37.6% of their three-pointers (315th in the nation), 65.3% of their near-proximity attempts (321st), and 48.6% of their total shots from the field (342nd). Savannah State is also one of the very worst teams in the game when it comes to preventing opponents from scoring off of offensive rebounds. The team allows AO to convert 8.3% of all second-chance opportunities (337th nationally), and with a rating of 16.21, they're 315th in potential points surrendered off of the offensive boards as well.

Savannah State doesn't rate much better on offense than they do on defense. Scoring roughly 92 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #327 in the nation in offensive efficiency. Savannah State struggles to drain shots consistently from most spots on the floor, ranking in the bottom-50 in three of the four primary field goal shooting categories. They are at their worst when shooting outside the paint, converting just 28.6% of their three-pointers (fourth from the bottom in the nation), 31.8% of their mid-range chances (324th), and 38.1% of their total shots from the field (sixth from the bottom) vs. AO. Savannah State also struggles to draw fouls and earn opportunities at the free throw line. With a free throw attempt rate of just 20.91 vs. AO, they are 324th in the overall rankings for that category.
