ANALYSIS:
Not one of the better ball-clubs in college basketball, Santa Clara should be a fairly easy win for most capable opponents. They have a record of 11-20 and are ranked 270th overall (out of 351) in the latest Haslametrics ratings. They are also ranked by this site as the worst team (out of 10) in the WCC (average ranking 153.0).

Santa Clara will certainly not be one of the stingier defenses opponents will encounter. Allowing more than 108 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked down at #290 in defensive efficiency. Santa Clara is one of the very worst teams in the country in terms of overall defensive field goal percentage. The ball-club ranks #337 nationally in field goal percentage allowed, as AO will convert approximately 49.4% of their total attempts from the floor. Santa Clara also does an extremely poor job to deny the opposition behind the arc. They rank 333rd nationally in defensive three-point percentage, allowing AO to make 39.3% of their attempts from afar. Luckily, AO will take nowhere near as many threes as they typically would, and only 32.4% of AO's field goal attempts will come from downtown. If Santa Clara does have a bright spot on defense, it would have to be their success stopping opponents from earning second-chance opportunities via offensive boards. The team has a rating of 12.82 in potential points allowed off of second chances vs. AO, which ranks 49th-best in college hoops.

Santa Clara doesn't rate much better on offense than they do on defense. Scoring roughly 98 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #245 in the nation in offensive efficiency. Santa Clara is one of the more deficient teams in the nation as it pertains to scoring off of offensive rebounds. Against AO, the team converts only 4.9% of all second-chance opportunities (305th nationally). Santa Clara also has some difficulties converting mid-range shot attempts. The team is ranked 301st in field goal percentage from that distance, making only 33.7% of their mid-range attempts vs. AO.

When playing on the road, Santa Clara has played their best basketball this season. The team is currently ranked second in the country in the away-from-home metric our site tracks.
SORTABLE SCHEDULE / RESULTS:
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location.
Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Santa Clara performs better against squads that allow more chances at the line. When facing teams that have a defensive free throw attempt rate vs. AO greater than 23.53, Santa Clara is more efficient than normal 70% of the time. In their other contests, the team is never more efficient than the norm.
When playing teams that shoot the ball well from the field, Santa Clara usually performs worse than average. Santa Clara never performs above average when facing clubs that have an offensive field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 45.02%. In all other contests, Santa Clara performs better than average 70% of the time.
Santa Clara is typically better vs. teams that do not defend well on the perimeter. Against foes that have a defensive three-point field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 34.85%, Santa Clara performs above their norm 79% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 20% of the time.
