ANALYSIS:
If you're looking for a squad in the bottom quartile of all Division I basketball teams this year, Samford likely fits the bill. Carrying a record of 10-23, they are currently rated #320 overall (out of 353) in All-Play Percentage this season. They are also ranked by this site as the #9 team (out of 10) in the Southern (average ranking 178.4).

Defense is the farthest thing from a strength for Samford this year. The team ranks 332nd in defensive efficiency, allowing more than 109 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Samford allows opposing teams far too many easy chances from the floor, ranking in the bottom-50 in three of the four main defensive field goal shooting categories. AO will convert a healthy 37.2% of their three-pointers (337th in the nation), 66.9% of their near-proximity attempts (341st), and 47.1% of their total shots from the field (322nd). Samford also struggles on occasion to deny opponents opportunities to shoot from the floor. The team is ranked 321st in the nation in defensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 85.56 vs. AO.

Though they rate better on offense than they do on defense, Samford still isn't one of the more capable offensive teams in college hoops. Scoring roughly 95 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #244 in the nation in offensive efficiency. Samford tends to be very careless with the ball and allows far too many breakaway opportunities off of their own turnovers. The team's rating for potential breakaway points allowed off of steals vs. AO is 13.69, which ranks 332nd in D1. Samford also needs improvement when it comes to draining the mid-range shot. The team is ranked 320th in field goal percentage from that distance, making only 33.2% of their mid-range attempts vs. AO.

Samford has recently performed below their norm from an efficiency standpoint. The team is currently ranked 308th in the country in positive momentum.
SORTABLE SCHEDULE / RESULTS:
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location.

Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 77% of the time.
