ANALYSIS: They're far from the worst of the worst, but Radford should not be a terribly frightening opponent for most clubs. They have a record of 16-15 and are ranked 233rd overall (out of 351) in the latest Haslametrics ratings. They are also ranked by this site as the #5 team (out of 11) in the Big South (average ranking 237.3).
Radford does not provide much of a challenge on defense. They are ranked at #267 in efficiency on that end of the court and give up about 107 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO. Radford performs really badly when attempting to stop opponents from making mid-range jumpers. The squad is ranked 331st nationally in defensive mid-range field goal percentage, allowing AO to make good on 40.8% of their attempts from those in-between spots on the floor.
Though they rate better on offense than they do on defense, Radford still isn't one of the more capable offensive teams in college hoops. Scoring roughly 100 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #190 in the nation in offensive efficiency. Radford does an extremely poor job drawing fouls and getting to the free throw line. With a free throw attempt rate of just 23.47 vs. AO, they are 335th in the overall rankings for that category. Radford also has had serious struggles making their free throws this year. Converting just 64.6% of their attempts, the squad is ranked #331 overall in free throw percentage. If Radford does have a strength offensively, it would have to be the team's ability to successfully get off shots each possession. The squad has a field goal attempt rate of 86.17 vs. AO, which ranks #21 in college basketball.
Radford is one of the most consistent teams in NCAA basketball (currently ranked seventh in consistency), which makes the outcomes of their upcoming games far easier to predict.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Radford is typically better vs. teams that tend to get off more shots. Against foes that have an offensive field goal attempt rate vs. AO greater than 79.58, Radford performs above their norm 74% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 10% of the time.
When facing teams that typically allow more than a fair share of breakaway opportunities, Radford often performs worse than normal. Radford is more efficient than usual 22% of the time when facing teams that have a potential point rate allowed off steals vs. AO greater than 12.19. In their other contests, Radford performs better than the norm 65% of the time.
Radford does worse vs. clubs that allow a higher number of conversions off of the offensive glass. When playing squads that have a defensive second-chance conversion percentage vs. AO greater than 7.49%, Radford performs above average 35% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 75% of the time.
