ANALYSIS: They're far from the worst of the worst, but Presbyterian should not be a terribly frightening opponent for most clubs. They are ranked #256 (out of 358) in the most recent Haslametrics ratings and have a record of 12-20. Of the 12 schools in the Big South (average ranking 247.2), they're currently ranked as our #7 team in the conference.
Offense is not the strong suit when it comes to Presbyterian. The team is ranked 292nd in offensive efficiency and scores fewer than 94 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Presbyterian is one of the least accurate teams when shooting from long-distance. They are ranked third from the bottom in three-point field goal percentage nationally and make just 27.7% of their attempts from long vs. AO. Moreover, they find themselves in the bottom-50 in overall offensive field goal percentage, converting just 40.3% of their total attempts vs. AO.
Though they rate better on defense than they do on offense, Presbyterian still isn't one of the more capable defensive teams in college hoops. Allowing roughly 102 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #206 in the nation in defensive efficiency. Presbyterian fouls far too much and sends the opposition to the line way too often. With a defensive free throw attempt rate of 29.65 vs. AO, the squad is ranked #341 in the country in that category. Presbyterian also does a very lackluster job preventing opponents from draining threes. They rank 333rd nationally in defensive three-point percentage, allowing AO to make 37.2% of their attempts from afar. If Presbyterian does have a bright spot on defense, it would have to be their ability to limit the number of shot attempts by the opposition. The team has a defensive field goal attempt rate of 76.14 vs. AO, which ranks sixth-best in college basketball.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
