ANALYSIS: Presbyterian presently has one of the below-average teams in college basketball. They are ranked #337 (out of 353) in the most recent Haslametrics ratings and have a record of 10-22. Of the 11 schools in the Big South (average ranking 281.5), they're currently ranked as our #10 team in the conference. With a strength-of-schedule rating of 0.318 (which ranks 330th in the nation), Presbyterian has faced some of the easiest opponents in all of college basketball.
Defense is the farthest thing from a strength for Presbyterian this year. The team ranks 337th in defensive efficiency, allowing more than 110 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Presbyterian allows opposing teams far too many easy chances from the floor, ranking in the bottom-50 in three of the four main defensive field goal shooting categories. AO will convert a healthy 37.7% of their three-pointers (343rd in the nation), 66.1% of their near-proximity attempts (338th), and 47.3% of their total shots from the field (325th).
Presbyterian doesn't rate much better on offense than they do on defense. Scoring roughly 92 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #296 in the nation in offensive efficiency. Presbyterian is downright rotten when shooting the mid-range jumper. The team is ranked third from the bottom in field goal percentage from that distance, making only 30.3% of their mid-range attempts vs. AO. Presbyterian also tends to be very careless with the ball and allows far too many breakaway opportunities off of their own turnovers. The team's rating for potential breakaway points allowed off of steals vs. AO is 14.99, which ranks sixth from the bottom in D1. Presbyterian lastly happens to be one of the very worst in the game when it comes to maximizing the number of shot attempts they get off from the floor. The team is nationally ranked 338th in offensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of only 77.12 vs. AO.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Presbyterian does worse vs. clubs that are more proficient at draining the mid-range shot. When playing squads that have an offensive mid-range field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 38.72%, Presbyterian performs above average 22% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 62% of the time.
