ANALYSIS:
Portland is not one of the better teams in Division I this year. Carrying a record of 7-25, they are currently rated #315 overall (out of 353) in All-Play Percentage this season. They are also ranked by this site as the worst team (out of 10) in the WCC (average ranking 125.9).

Offense is not the strong suit when it comes to Portland. The team is ranked 309th in offensive efficiency and scores fewer than 95 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Portland does a terrible job to take advantage of scoring chances off of offensive rebounds. Against AO, the team converts only 3.7% of all second-chance opportunities (seventh from the bottom nationally), and with a rating of 10.97, they're 312th in potential points scored off of the offensive boards as well. Portland also happens to be one of the very worst in the game when it comes to maximizing the number of shot attempts they get off from the floor. The team is nationally ranked 332nd in offensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of only 78.73 vs. AO.

Portland doesn't rate much better on defense than they do on offense. Allowing roughly 110 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #297 in the nation in defensive efficiency. Portland allows the opposition to get off far too many shots from the floor. The team is ranked 338th in the nation in defensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 87.80 vs. AO.

Portland is one of the more consistent teams in Division I (presently ranked 45th in consistency), so forecasting the outcomes of their future contests tends to be easier than the norm. On the road, Portland performs somewhat better than their norm, as the squad is nationally ranked 44th in our away-from-home metric.
SORTABLE SCHEDULE / RESULTS:
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location.
Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Portland performs worse against squads that tend to allow more shots on the perimeter. When facing teams that have a defensive shooting proximity score vs. AO greater than 1.98, Portland is more efficient than normal 29% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 69% of the time.
When playing teams that are typically efficient on offense, Portland usually performs worse than average. Portland is more efficient than normal 35% of the time when facing clubs that have an offensive efficiency rating vs. AO greater than 98.74. In all other contests, Portland performs better than average 70% of the time.
Portland is typically worse vs. teams that are more proficient at draining the mid-range shot. Against foes that have an offensive mid-range field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 33.78%, Portland performs above their norm 35% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 70% of the time.
