ANALYSIS: There aren't many teams in the country that have been as strong as Baylor this year. Carrying a record of 26-4, they are currently rated #5 overall (out of 353) in All-Play Percentage this season. They are also ranked by this site as the #2 team (out of 10) in the Big 12 (average ranking 46.5).
The Baylor defense will be extremely problematic for most opposing offenses. Allowing about 85 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO, the club is ranked fourth overall in defensive efficiency. Baylor does a bang-up job preventing the opposition from draining jumpers in between the three-point line and the low post. They're ranked fourth in Division I in defensive mid-range field goal percentage, allowing AO to make good on only 29.7% of their attempts from that distance. To capitalize on that weakness, this team will make AO shoot from mid-range locations more than they usually would. Of AO's total field goals, a large portion of them (33.7%) will be from mid-range. Baylor is also one of the very best in the land in overall defensive field goal percentage. The team ranks #12 nationally in field goal percentage allowed, as AO only makes good on about 38.3% of their total attempts from the floor. Baylor lastly thrives on scoring fast and easy points off of steals. They're ranked 20th in potential points off of breakaway steals vs. AO with a rating of 14.83.
Baylor plays at about the same level on offense as they do on defense. The team ranks 14th nationally in offensive efficiency, scoring about 111 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Baylor is one of the very best when it comes to maximizing field goal opportunities. The team is ranked first in the NCAA in offensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 89.87 vs. AO. And when they do shoot, they make a fair portion of their shots. Ranked in the top-75 in field goal shooting percentage, the squad converts about 45.2% of their total attempts vs. AO. Baylor also allows very few breakaway opportunities for the opposition, which typically translates to fewer turnovers. The team's rating vs. AO for potential breakaway points allowed off of steals is 7.77, which ranks #9 in the country.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
