ANALYSIS: They're far from the worst of the worst, but CSU Northridge should not be a terribly frightening opponent for most clubs. Haslametrics has them ranked 239th overall (out of 351) in All-Play Percentage, and the team holds a record of 9-24. They are also ranked by this site as the #8 team (out of nine) in the Big West (average ranking 153.2).
CSU Northridge will certainly not be one of the stingier defenses opponents will encounter. Allowing more than 105 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked down at #258 in defensive efficiency. CSU Northridge tends to struggle a bit against teams that shoot the three. They rank 259th nationally in defensive three-point percentage, allowing AO to make 36.2% of their attempts from afar. And to expose that weakness, AO will gladly launch the three all day and all night. Of AO's total field goals, a large chunk of them (39.6%) will be from long-distance.
CSU Northridge doesn't rate much better on offense than they do on defense. Scoring roughly 98 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #222 in the nation in offensive efficiency. CSU Northridge tends to be very careless with the ball and allows far too many breakaway opportunities off of their own turnovers. The team's rating for potential breakaway points allowed off of steals vs. AO is 14.03, which ranks 330th in D1. If CSU Northridge does have a strength offensively, it would have to be the team's outstanding shooting at the charity stripe. The squad makes 75.8% of their free throw attempts, which ranks #17 in Division I.
CSU Northridge is one of the most consistent teams in NCAA basketball (currently ranked second in consistency), which makes the outcomes of their upcoming games far easier to predict. On the road, CSU Northridge performs somewhat better than their norm, as the squad is nationally ranked 47th in our away-from-home metric.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
When playing teams that tend to allow more shots on the perimeter, CSU Northridge usually performs worse than average. CSU Northridge is more efficient than normal 36% of the time when facing clubs that have a defensive shooting proximity score vs. AO greater than 1.98. In all other contests, CSU Northridge performs better than average 78% of the time.
CSU Northridge is typically worse vs. teams that prefer the outside shot. Against foes that have an offensive shooting proximity score vs. AO greater than 2.00, CSU Northridge performs above their norm 25% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 63% of the time.
When facing teams that allow opponents to shoot well from the field, CSU Northridge often performs better than normal. CSU Northridge is more efficient than usual 65% of the time when facing teams that have a defensive field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 41.85%. In their other contests, CSU Northridge performs better than the norm 29% of the time.
