ANALYSIS: North Florida is a fairly decent basketball team that, while likely better than average, isn't quite good enough to crack any top-25 rankings this year. Haslametrics has them ranked 159th overall (out of 351) in All-Play Percentage, and the team holds a record of 23-12. Of the eight schools in the Atlantic Sun (average ranking 260.8), they're currently ranked as the best team in the conference.
If there is a strength for North Florida this year, it's probably on the offensive end of the court. The team is rated 121st in offensive efficiency, scoring more than 102 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. North Florida will make a concerted effort to fire off quite a few three-pointers each game. The team ranks 41st in ratio of three-point attempts to total field goal attempts. If you do allow them to shoot from long, they have the ability to punish you for it, too. Ranked in the top-75 in three-point shooting percentage, they make approximately 37.2% of their three-point attempts vs. AO. If North Florida does have a weakness offensively, it would have to be the team's difficulties obtaining second-chance opportunities from offensive rebounds. The squad only has a rating of 11.64 vs. AO in potential points off of second chances, which ranks 26th-worst in college hoops.
North Florida doesn't perform as well defensively as they do offensively. The team is ranked 204th in defensive efficiency, allowing about 103 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. North Florida will allow opponents more chances to shoot than the norm. The team is ranked 280th in the nation in defensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 84.49 vs. AO.
North Florida is one of the more consistent teams in Division I (presently ranked 35th in consistency), so forecasting the outcomes of their future contests tends to be easier than the norm.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
When playing teams that allow a greater number of field goal opportunities, North Florida usually performs better than average. North Florida is more efficient than normal 64% of the time when facing clubs that have a defensive field goal attempt rate vs. AO greater than 80.43. In all other contests, North Florida performs better than average 10% of the time.
North Florida is typically worse vs. teams that find ways to get to the free throw line. Against foes that have an offensive free throw attempt rate vs. AO greater than 26.54, North Florida performs above their norm 33% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 73% of the time.
When facing teams that convert well from outside the arc, North Florida often performs better than normal. North Florida is more efficient than usual 59% of the time when facing teams that have an offensive three-point field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 32.05%. In their other contests, North Florida performs better than the norm 20% of the time.
