ANALYSIS: Despite having a win percentage north of .500, New Orleans is definitely a below-average ball-club in college hoops this year. They have a record of 18-14 and are ranked 276th overall (out of 358) in the latest Haslametrics ratings. Of the eight schools in the Southland (average ranking 291.5), they're currently ranked as our #4 team in the conference. With a strength-of-schedule rating of 0.253 (which ranks seventh from the bottom nationally), New Orleans has had one of the cushiest slates in all of college basketball.
New Orleans is not one of the better offensive teams you will find. They are rated #281 in efficiency on that end of the court and only score about 95 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO. New Orleans happens to be one of the very worst in the game when it comes to maximizing the number of shot attempts they get off from the floor. The team is nationally ranked ninth from the bottom in offensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of only 78.36 vs. AO. New Orleans is also one of the least accurate teams when shooting from long-distance. They are ranked 343rd in three-point field goal percentage nationally and make just 29.9% of their attempts from long vs. AO. If New Orleans does have a strength offensively, it would have to be the team's ability to get to the free throw line. The squad has a free throw attempt rate of 28.38 vs. AO, which ranks 20th in the country.
New Orleans doesn't rate much better on defense than they do on offense. Allowing roughly 104 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #246 in the nation in defensive efficiency. New Orleans can be weak on rebounding, giving the opposition too many chances to score off of the offensive glass. The club has a rating of 15.34 vs. AO in potential points allowed off of second chances (311th nationally).
New Orleans has been playing some of their worst basketball of the season as of late, and they're presently ranked 348th in positive momentum because of it. New Orleans is also one of the most consistent teams in NCAA basketball (currently ranked fifth in consistency), which makes the outcomes of their upcoming games far easier to predict. When playing on the road, New Orleans performs somewhat worse than they normally do on their home court. The club is nationally ranked 333rd in our site's away-from-home metric.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
