ANALYSIS: If you're looking for a squad in the bottom quartile of all Division I basketball teams this year, New Orleans likely fits the bill. Carrying a record of 9-21, they are currently rated #318 overall (out of 353) in All-Play Percentage this season. They are also ranked by this site as the #10 team (out of 13) in the Southland (average ranking 251.2).
Defense is the farthest thing from a strength for New Orleans this year. The team ranks 335th in defensive efficiency, allowing more than 110 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. New Orleans allows opposing teams far too many easy chances from the floor, ranking in the bottom-50 in three of the four main defensive field goal shooting categories. They are exceptionally deficient defending inside the three-point line, allowing AO to make good on 44.0% of their mid-range jumpers (343rd in the nation), 63.9% of their near-proximity chances (312th), and 49.2% of their total shots from the field (eighth from the bottom). New Orleans is also one of the very worst teams in the game when it comes to preventing opponents from scoring off of offensive rebounds. The team allows AO to convert 7.2% of all second-chance opportunities (339th nationally).
Though they rate better on offense than they do on defense, New Orleans still isn't one of the more capable offensive teams in college hoops. Scoring roughly 95 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #250 in the nation in offensive efficiency. New Orleans doesn't do a great job maximizing opportunities to score when in possession. The team is nationally ranked 290th in offensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of only 79.19 vs. AO.
New Orleans is one of the most consistent teams in NCAA basketball (currently ranked tenth in consistency), which makes the outcomes of their upcoming games far easier to predict.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
