ANALYSIS: If you're looking for a squad in the bottom quartile of all Division I basketball teams this year, Omaha likely fits the bill. Carrying a record of 5-25, they are currently rated #343 overall (out of 358) in All-Play Percentage this season. Of the 10 schools in the Summit League (average ranking 228.5), they're currently ranked as our #9 team in the conference.
Defense is the farthest thing from a strength for Omaha this year. The team ranks fifth from the bottom in defensive efficiency, allowing more than 113 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Omaha does an extremely poor job to deny the opposition behind the arc. They rank tenth from the bottom nationally in defensive three-point percentage, allowing AO to make 38.4% of their attempts from afar. Omaha is also one of the very worst teams in the country in terms of overall defensive field goal percentage. The ball-club ranks #335 nationally in field goal percentage allowed, as AO will convert approximately 47.3% of their total attempts from the floor.
Though they rate better on offense than they do on defense, Omaha still isn't one of the more capable offensive teams in college hoops. Scoring roughly 93 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #302 in the nation in offensive efficiency. Omaha does a fairly poor job cleaning the offensive glass. Against AO, the ball-club has a rating of 10.11 in potential points scored off of second chances (329th nationally).
Omaha has been one of the more erratic teams in NCAA basketball this year (presently ranked 327th in the country in consistency), which makes forecasting the outcomes of their upcoming games tougher than most. On the road, Omaha performs noticeably worse than they do at home. The team is currently ranked tenth from the bottom in the country in the away-from-home metric we track.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Omaha is typically better vs. teams that favor a faster tempo. Against foes that have a pace vs. AO greater than 67.98, Omaha performs above their norm 68% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 30% of the time.
When facing teams that shoot the ball well from the field, Omaha often performs better than normal. Omaha is more efficient than usual 73% of the time when facing teams that have an offensive field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 43.07%. In their other contests, Omaha performs better than the norm 36% of the time.
Omaha does worse vs. clubs that do not defend well on the perimeter. When playing squads that have a defensive three-point field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 33.35%, Omaha performs above average 41% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 75% of the time.
