ANALYSIS: UNCG is a fairly decent basketball team that, while likely better than average, isn't quite good enough to crack any top-25 rankings this year. They have a record of 21-9 and are ranked 109th overall (out of 357) in the latest Haslametrics ratings. Of the 10 schools in the Southern (average ranking 166.2), they're currently ranked as our #2 team in the conference.
The primary strength for UNCG is defense. The team is ranked 62nd in efficiency, allowing fewer than 95 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. UNCG does a really good job to prevent opponents from getting off shots from the field. The club is ranked 28th in Division I in defensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 77.78 vs. AO. UNCG has also done a very good job to prevent opponents from draining threes this year. They rank 39th in the NCAA in defensive three-point percentage, allowing AO to make just 31.1% of their attempts from afar.
UNCG is also a fairly decent team on the offensive end of the court. The team ranks 161st nationally in offensive efficiency, scoring about 100 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. UNCG is one of the very best when it comes to maximizing field goal opportunities. The team is ranked third in the NCAA in offensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 90.43 vs. AO. Conversely, the squad isn't all that good at draining those shots, converting about 41.4% of their total attempts vs. AO. UNCG also allows very few breakaway opportunities for the opposition, which typically translates to fewer turnovers. The team's rating vs. AO for potential breakaway points allowed off of steals is 7.23, which ranks #5 in the country. If UNCG does have a weakness offensively, it would have to be the team's inability to get to the free throw line. The squad has a free throw attempt rate of only 21.28 vs. AO, which ranks 50th-worst in the country.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
