ANALYSIS: McNeese is not one of the better teams in Division I this year. Haslametrics has them ranked 325th overall (out of 353) in All-Play Percentage, and the team holds a record of 9-22. They are also ranked by this site as the #11 team (out of 13) in the Southland (average ranking 269.8).
McNeese has one of the most inept defenses in the NCAA. Allowing about 115 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they're ranked way down at #341 in defensive efficiency. McNeese performs really badly when attempting to stop opponents from making mid-range jumpers. The squad is ranked 338th nationally in defensive mid-range field goal percentage, allowing AO to make good on 41.5% of their attempts from those in-between spots on the floor. Thankfully, AO will take nowhere near as many mid-range shots vs. McNeese as they typically would, as only 18.8% of their field goal attempts will come from in-between locations. McNeese also allows opponents' field goal percentages to get far too high. The ball-club ranks #323 nationally in field goal percentage allowed, as AO will convert approximately 47.7% of their total attempts from the floor.
McNeese doesn't rate much better on offense than they do on defense. Scoring roughly 96 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #293 in the nation in offensive efficiency. McNeese tends to be very careless with the ball and allows far too many breakaway opportunities off of their own turnovers. The team's rating for potential breakaway points allowed off of steals vs. AO is 15.01, which ranks 342nd in D1. McNeese is also one of the least accurate teams when shooting from long-distance. They are ranked 339th in three-point field goal percentage nationally and make just 30.4% of their attempts from long vs. AO.
McNeese has recently performed below their norm from an efficiency standpoint. The team is currently ranked 323rd in the country in positive momentum. When playing on the road, McNeese performs somewhat worse than they normally do on their home court. The club is nationally ranked 307th in our site's away-from-home metric.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
McNeese does better vs. clubs that allow opponents to shoot well from the field. When playing squads that have a defensive field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 45.74%, McNeese performs above average 71% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 15% of the time.
McNeese performs better against squads that fail to defend efficiently inside the paint. When facing teams that have a defensive near-proximity field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 61.55%, McNeese is more efficient than normal 67% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 17% of the time.
When playing teams that have trouble defending the mid-range shot, McNeese usually performs better than average. McNeese is more efficient than normal 69% of the time when facing clubs that have a defensive mid-range field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 37.61%. In all other contests, McNeese performs better than average 21% of the time.
