ANALYSIS: Not one of the better ball-clubs in college basketball, LIU Brooklyn should be a fairly easy win for most capable opponents. Their record this season is 16-16, and the club is ranked 270th overall (out of 353) in Haslametrics' most recent ratings. Of the 10 schools in the NEC (average ranking 284.9), they're currently ranked as our #5 team in the conference. With a strength-of-schedule rating of 0.274 (which ranks fourth from the bottom nationally), LIU Brooklyn has had one of the cushiest slates in all of college basketball.
LIU Brooklyn is not one of the better offensive teams you will find. They are rated #267 in efficiency on that end of the court and only score about 97 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO. LIU Brooklyn is downright rotten when shooting the mid-range jumper. The team is ranked 335th in field goal percentage from that distance, making only 30.9% of their mid-range attempts vs. AO. LIU Brooklyn also won't provide opponents much of a scare with their shooting percentage from the inside. The team is ranked 311th in near-proximity field goal percentage, making only 54.2% of their attempts from up-close vs. AO.
LIU Brooklyn doesn't rate much better on defense than they do on offense. Allowing roughly 107 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #243 in the nation in defensive efficiency. LIU Brooklyn can be weak on rebounding, giving the opposition too many chances to score off of the offensive glass. The club has a rating of 16.50 vs. AO in potential points allowed off of second chances (328th nationally), and they let AO convert a healthy 7.5% of all second-chance opportunities (ranked 308th) as well. LIU Brooklyn also commits too many fouls, which leads to plentiful free throw attempts for the opposition. With a defensive free throw attempt rate of 29.58 vs. AO, the squad is ranked #305 in the country in that category.
LIU Brooklyn has been playing much better basketball as of late and is presently ranked 14th in positive momentum because of it.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
LIU Brooklyn is typically better vs. teams that do not defend well on the perimeter. Against foes that have a defensive three-point field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 38.05%, LIU Brooklyn performs above their norm 90% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 38% of the time.
When facing teams that typically allow more than a fair share of breakaway opportunities, LIU Brooklyn often performs better than normal. LIU Brooklyn is more efficient than usual 90% of the time when facing teams that have a potential point rate allowed off steals vs. AO greater than 12.54. In their other contests, LIU Brooklyn performs better than the norm 38% of the time.
LIU Brooklyn does worse vs. clubs that allow a higher number of conversions off of the offensive glass. When playing squads that have a defensive second-chance conversion percentage vs. AO greater than 6.59%, LIU Brooklyn performs above average 25% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 74% of the time.
