ANALYSIS: Arizona is one of the teams in the upper echelon of college basketball this year. They are ranked #18 (out of 351) in the most recent Haslametrics ratings and have a record of 25-9. Of the 12 schools in the Pac-12 (average ranking 65.8), they're currently ranked as our #2 team in the conference.
Arizona is undoubtedly one of the best in the business on offense. The team is rated 19th in offensive efficiency, scoring more than 114 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. Arizona does a super job in their efforts to get to the free throw line. With a free throw attempt rate of 34.27 vs. AO, they are ranked tenth in the nation at getting to the charity stripe. In addition, the team is in the top-75 in free throw shooting, converting a solid 73.3% of their attempts. Arizona also does an outstanding job finishing any scoring chances they obtain from offensive rebounds. Against AO, the team successfully converts 9.9% of all second-chance opportunities (ranked tenth nationally). Arizona is lastly an outstanding shooting team, capable of converting from a variety of locations on the floor and ranking in the top-50 in each of our four most noteworthy field goal categories. They make 38.8% of their three-pointers (20th in the nation), 39.4% of their mid-range jumpers (43rd), 65.8% of their near-proximity chances (24th), and 49.2% of their total shots from the field (13th) vs. AO.
Arizona plays at roughly the same level defensively as they do offensively. The team ranks 32nd nationally in defensive efficiency, allowing about 94 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Arizona is a superior unit when it comes to preventing opponents from getting to the foul line. With a defensive free throw attempt rate of 21.07 vs. AO, they are currently rated fifth in the country in that category. Arizona also does a super job to deny opponents offensive rebounds and second chances. They have a rating of 12.02 vs. AO in potential points allowed off of second chances (ranked 19th in the country), and they allow AO to convert just 5.0% of their second-chance opportunities (ranked 25th) as well. If Arizona does exhibit a weakness on the defensive end of the floor, it'd likely be the team's propensity to allow too many shot attempts per trip. The squad has a rating of 85.66 in defensive field goal attempt rate vs. AO, which ranks 41st-worst in college basketball.
On the road, Arizona performs noticeably worse than they do at home. The team is currently ranked 334th in the country in the away-from-home metric we track.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.

Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 7% of the time.
