ANALYSIS:
If you see Lamar on the schedule, you will likely get one of the average to below-average teams in college hoops. They have a record of 17-15 and are ranked 225th overall (out of 353) in the latest Haslametrics ratings. Of the 13 schools in the Southland (average ranking 251.2), they're currently ranked as our #5 team in the conference.

Offense is not the strong suit when it comes to Lamar. The team is ranked 266th in offensive efficiency and scores fewer than 94 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Lamar needs improvement when it comes to draining the mid-range shot. The team is ranked 309th in field goal percentage from that distance, making only 33.8% of their mid-range attempts vs. AO.

Though they rate better on defense than they do on offense, Lamar still isn't one of the more capable defensive teams in college hoops. Allowing roughly 100 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #179 in the nation in defensive efficiency. Although their defense isn't the greatest, Lamar doesn't stand out as being especially horrible in any one particular area on that end of the court, and they fall outside the bottom-100 in every one of the defensive categories we take into consideration for this analysis. If Lamar does have a bright spot on defense, it would have to be their willingness to take risks in order to score fast points off of steals. The team has a solid rating of 15.38 in potential points scored off of steals vs. AO, which ranks 11th-best in college basketball.

Lamar has been playing much better basketball as of late and is presently ranked 21st in positive momentum because of it.
SORTABLE SCHEDULE / RESULTS:
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location.
Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Lamar does better vs. clubs that are likely to allow more second chances off of offensive rebounds. When playing squads that have a defensive second-chance potential point rate vs. AO greater than 13.53, Lamar performs above average 69% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 23% of the time.
Lamar performs worse against squads that effectively clean the offensive glass. When facing teams that have an offensive second-chance potential point rate vs. AO greater than 13.31, Lamar is more efficient than normal 20% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 63% of the time.
When playing teams that have trouble defending the mid-range shot, Lamar usually performs better than average. Lamar is more efficient than normal 60% of the time when facing clubs that have a defensive mid-range field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 39.58%. In all other contests, Lamar performs better than average 22% of the time.
