ANALYSIS:
By our calculations, Gonzaga is the cream of the crop in college hoops this year. Ranked first overall (out of 358) in our most recent ratings, they presently have a record of 28-4. Of the 10 schools in the WCC (average ranking 130.2), they're obviously ranked as the best team in the conference.

Gonzaga showcases one of the country's most efficient offenses. Racking up about 119 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO and promoting a feverish pace (the 11th-fastest in D1), the team is nationally rated second in efficiency on that end of the floor. Gonzaga is one of the most lethal teams in the country when it comes to shooting the basketball, ranking in the top-25 in each of our four major field goal categories. They make 38.0% of their three-pointers (12th in the nation), 45.5% of their mid-range jumpers (fourth), 70.9% of their near-proximity chances (first), and 52.9% of their total shots from the field (first) vs. AO. Gonzaga also does an outstanding job finishing any scoring chances they obtain from offensive rebounds. Against AO, the team successfully converts 8.0% of all second-chance opportunities (ranked sixth nationally).

Gonzaga plays at roughly the same level defensively as they do offensively. The team ranks 11th nationally in defensive efficiency, allowing about 88 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Gonzaga will put a good dent in the shooting percentages of several opponents, considering the team ranks in the top-50 in each of the four major defensive shooting categories. While their best work on defense is done near the bucket (allowing 48.5% shooting from near-proximity locations vs. AO, fourth-best in the nation), the team also pesters AO into converting just 30.7% of their three-pointers (37th), 33.4% of their mid-range field goals (24th), and 37.5% of their total shots from the field (sixth). Gonzaga also does a super job to deny opponents offensive rebounds and second chances. They have a rating of 9.05 vs. AO in potential points allowed off of second chances (ranked fifth in the country), and they allow AO to convert just 3.5% of their second-chance opportunities (ranked 27th) as well.

Gonzaga has recently performed below their norm from an efficiency standpoint. The team is currently ranked 320th in the country in positive momentum. Gonzaga is also one of the most consistent teams in NCAA basketball (currently ranked 14th in consistency), which makes the outcomes of their upcoming games far easier to predict.
SORTABLE SCHEDULE / RESULTS:
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location.
Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
When playing teams that allow a higher number of conversions off of the offensive glass, Gonzaga usually performs worse than average. Gonzaga is more efficient than normal 33% of the time when facing clubs that have a defensive second-chance conversion percentage vs. AO greater than 4.38%. In all other contests, Gonzaga performs better than average 79% of the time.
Gonzaga is typically worse vs. teams that do not defend well on the perimeter. Against foes that have a defensive three-point field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 31.78%, Gonzaga performs above their norm 37% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 77% of the time.
When facing teams that are likely to allow more second chances off of offensive rebounds, Gonzaga often performs worse than normal. Gonzaga is more efficient than usual 41% of the time when facing teams that have a defensive second-chance potential point rate vs. AO greater than 12.15. In their other contests, Gonzaga performs better than the norm 80% of the time.
