ANALYSIS: Despite what their win percentage might indicate, Penn State is a good team that can cause more than enough trouble for most opponents. Of the 14 schools in the Big Ten (average ranking 42.1), they're currently ranked as our #7 team in the conference. And when they do shoot, they make a fair portion of their shots. Ranked in the top-100 in field goal shooting percentage, the squad converts about 45.2% of their total attempts vs. AO. Penn State also does a pretty good job of protecting the ball when they have possession and not allowing quick and easy baskets off of their own turnovers. The team's rating vs. AO for potential breakaway points allowed off of steals is 8.84, which ranks #41 in the country.
Penn State plays at roughly the same level defensively as they do offensively. The team ranks 57th nationally in defensive efficiency, allowing about 94 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Penn State does a pretty solid job providing themselves chances to score quickly off of steals. They're ranked 27th in potential points off of breakaway steals vs. AO with a rating of 14.89. Penn State also does an adequate job to prevent opponents from scoring off of offensive rebounds. The squad allows AO to convert only 3.9% of all second-chance opportunities (ranked 55th in the NCAA).
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
