ANALYSIS: Not one of the better ball-clubs in college basketball, FIU should be a fairly easy win for most capable opponents. Carrying a record of 9-17, they are currently rated #293 overall (out of 357) in All-Play Percentage this season. They are also ranked by this site as the #13 team (out of 14) in Conference USA (average ranking 168.8).
FIU will certainly not be one of the stingier defenses opponents will encounter. Allowing more than 106 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked down at #305 in defensive efficiency. FIU allows the opposition far too many easy shots from the floor and ranks in the bottom-25 in three of our four major defensive field goal shooting categories. They are at their worst when defending outside the paint, allowing AO to convert 38.2% of their three-pointers (343rd in the nation), 47.9% of their mid-range chances (third from the bottom), and 48.1% of their total shots from the field (335th).
FIU doesn't rate much better on offense than they do on defense. Scoring roughly 93 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #280 in the nation in offensive efficiency. FIU does an extremely poor job drawing fouls and getting to the free throw line. With a free throw attempt rate of just 18.91 vs. AO, they are sixth from the bottom in the overall rankings for that category. FIU is also not one of the better teams when it comes to sinking foul shots. Converting just 65.9% of their attempts, the squad is ranked #312 overall in free throw percentage.
FIU has recently performed below their norm from an efficiency standpoint. The team is currently ranked 323rd in the country in positive momentum.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
