ANALYSIS: Denver presently has one of the below-average teams in college basketball. Carrying a record of 11-21, they are currently rated #279 overall (out of 358) in All-Play Percentage this season. Of the 10 schools in the Summit League (average ranking 228.5), they're currently ranked as our #7 team in the conference.
Denver does not provide much of a challenge on defense. They are ranked at #313 in efficiency on that end of the court and give up about 108 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO. Denver is extremely underskilled to force steals that turn into quick and easy points. They're ranked #350 in potential points off of breakaway steals with a rating of only 6.63 vs. AO. Denver has also done a lackluster job this year when defending the mid-range shot. The squad is ranked 321st nationally in defensive mid-range field goal percentage, allowing AO to make good on 41.8% of their attempts from those in-between spots on the floor. Thankfully, AO will take nowhere near as many mid-range shots vs. Denver as they typically would, as only 24.0% of their field goal attempts will come from in-between locations.
Though they rate better on offense than they do on defense, Denver still isn't one of the more capable offensive teams in college hoops. Scoring roughly 98 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #232 in the nation in offensive efficiency. Denver poses no threat whatsoever to grab rebounds off their own misses. Against AO, the ball-club has a rating of 8.86 in potential points scored off of second chances (tenth from the bottom nationally), and they convert just 3.2% of their second-chance opportunities (ranked 336th) as well. Denver is also one of the more inferior teams in the college game when it comes to maximizing opportunities to score on offense. The team is nationally ranked 322nd in offensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of only 79.98 vs. AO. If Denver does have a strength offensively, it would have to be the team's ability to sink threes. The squad converts 36.7% of their three-point attempts vs. AO, which ranks 40th in the nation.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Denver is typically worse vs. teams that convert more frequently off of offensive rebounds. Against foes that have an offensive second-chance conversion percentage vs. AO greater than 4.68%, Denver performs above their norm 20% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 55% of the time.
When facing teams that effectively clean the offensive glass, Denver often performs worse than normal. Denver is more efficient than usual 20% of the time when facing teams that have an offensive second-chance potential point rate vs. AO greater than 12.69. In their other contests, Denver performs better than the norm 55% of the time.
