ANALYSIS: While not an atrocious team by any means, Denver is not exactly one that should appear in many top-100 rankings either. Their record this season is 16-14, and the club is ranked 191st overall (out of 351) in Haslametrics' most recent ratings. They are also ranked by this site as the #7 team (out of nine) in the Summit League (average ranking 185.3).
If there is a strength for Denver this year, it's probably on the offensive end of the court. The team is rated 136th in offensive efficiency, scoring more than 103 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. Denver is superb at converting jumpers in between the three-point stripe and the low post. The squad is ranked 17th nationally in mid-range field goal percentage, making about 40.7% of their attempts from those locations vs. AO. The team will take a fair amount of shots from those in-between locations, too. Approximately 32.3% of their attempts vs. AO are of the mid-range variety, which puts the team in the top-100 in that category nationally. Denver is also one of the more accurate teams in the college game when it comes to shooting the three. They're ranked 46th nationally in three-point field goal percentage and make about 38.1% of their attempts from there vs. AO.
The defense for Denver, on the other hand, isn't nearly as efficient as the offense is. The team is ranked 273rd in defensive efficiency, allowing about 107 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. Denver is extremely underskilled to force steals that turn into quick and easy points. They're ranked #339 in potential points off of breakaway steals with a rating of only 7.33 vs. AO.
Denver has been playing some of their worst basketball of the season as of late, and they're presently ranked third from the bottom in positive momentum because of it.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Denver performs worse against squads that fail to defend efficiently inside the paint. When facing teams that have a defensive near-proximity field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 61.21%, Denver is more efficient than normal 33% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 72% of the time.
When playing teams that do not defend well on the perimeter, Denver usually performs better than average. Denver is more efficient than normal 77% of the time when facing clubs that have a defensive three-point field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 36.22%. In all other contests, Denver performs better than average 41% of the time.
Denver is typically worse vs. teams that find ways to get to the free throw line. Against foes that have an offensive free throw attempt rate vs. AO greater than 28.42, Denver performs above their norm 33% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 67% of the time.
