ANALYSIS:
If you're looking for a squad in the bottom quartile of all Division I basketball teams this year, Coppin State likely fits the bill. Ranked 328th overall (out of 351) in our most recent ratings, they presently have a record of 8-23. They are also ranked by this site as the #9 team (out of 13) in the MEAC (average ranking 284.1).

Coppin State has a very sieve-like defense that gives up points way too easily. The team is ranked 340th in efficiency on that end of the court and gives up more than 112 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. Coppin State allows opposing teams far too many easy chances from the floor, ranking in the bottom-50 in three of the four main defensive field goal shooting categories. AO will convert a healthy 38.3% of their three-pointers (329th in the nation), 64.2% of their near-proximity attempts (315th), and 48.7% of their total shots from the field (341st). Coppin State is also one of the very worst teams in the game when it comes to preventing opponents from scoring off of offensive rebounds. The team allows AO to convert 9.1% of all second-chance opportunities (339th nationally), and with a rating of 17.90, they're 323rd in potential points surrendered off of the offensive boards as well. If Coppin State does have a bright spot on defense, it would have to be their willingness to take risks in order to score fast points off of steals. Though they rate better on offense than they do on defense, Coppin State still isn't one of the more capable offensive teams in college hoops.
