ANALYSIS: Not one of the better ball-clubs in college basketball, Chicago State should be a fairly easy win for most capable opponents. Their record this season is 7-25, and the club is ranked 340th overall (out of 358) in Haslametrics' most recent ratings. They are also ranked by this site as the #12 team (out of 13) in the WAC (average ranking 193.9).
Defense is the farthest thing from a strength for Chicago State this year. The team ranks 340th in defensive efficiency, allowing more than 110 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Chicago State does an extremely poor job to deny the opposition behind the arc. They rank third from the bottom nationally in defensive three-point percentage, allowing AO to make 39.3% of their attempts from afar. Chicago State also fouls far too much and sends the opposition to the line way too often. With a defensive free throw attempt rate of 29.32 vs. AO, the squad is ranked #338 in the country in that category.
Chicago State doesn't rate much better on offense than they do on defense. Scoring roughly 91 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #322 in the nation in offensive efficiency. Chicago State is downright rotten when shooting the mid-range jumper. The team is ranked sixth from the bottom in field goal percentage from that distance, making only 31.3% of their mid-range attempts vs. AO. Exacerbating the situation, they find themselves in the bottom-25 in overall offensive field goal percentage, converting only 39.3% of all their attempts from the floor vs. AO. Chicago State also has had serious struggles making their free throws this year. Converting just 65.7% of their attempts, the squad is ranked #341 overall in free throw percentage.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
When playing teams that allow more chances at the line, Chicago State usually performs better than average. Chicago State is more efficient than normal 65% of the time when facing clubs that have a defensive free throw attempt rate vs. AO greater than 25.06. Against foes that have a defensive second-chance potential point rate vs. AO greater than 13.32, Chicago State performs above their norm 60% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 17% of the time.
When facing teams that convert more frequently off of offensive rebounds, Chicago State often performs worse than normal.
