ANALYSIS:
If you're looking for a squad in the bottom quartile of all Division I basketball teams this year, Canisius likely fits the bill. They have a record of 12-20 and are ranked 265th overall (out of 353) in the latest Haslametrics ratings. Of the 11 schools in the MAAC (average ranking 247.7), they're currently ranked as our #7 team in the conference.

Canisius is not one of the better offensive teams you will find. They are rated #275 in efficiency on that end of the court and only score about 93 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO. Canisius is one of the least accurate teams when shooting from long-distance. They are ranked 339th in three-point field goal percentage nationally and make just 29.2% of their attempts from long vs. AO.

Canisius doesn't rate much better on defense than they do on offense. Allowing roughly 103 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #242 in the nation in defensive efficiency. Canisius allows opponents' field goal percentages to get far too high. The ball-club ranks #318 nationally in field goal percentage allowed, as AO will convert approximately 47.0% of their total attempts from the floor. Canisius has also done a pretty poor job this season to prevent opponents from making shots from the inside. The team is ranked 310th in the country in defensive near-proximity percentage, allowing AO to make good on 63.7% of their attempts from close-up. If Canisius does have a bright spot on defense, it would have to be their ability to limit the number of shot attempts by the opposition. The team has a defensive field goal attempt rate of 78.28 vs. AO, which ranks 41st-best in college basketball.

When playing on the road, Canisius has played their best basketball this season. The team is currently ranked 11th in the country in the away-from-home metric our site tracks.
SORTABLE SCHEDULE / RESULTS:
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location.
Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
When facing teams that do not defend well on the perimeter, Canisius often performs worse than normal. Canisius is more efficient than usual 32% of the time when facing teams that have a defensive three-point field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 33.56%. In their other contests, Canisius performs better than the norm 100% of the time.
Canisius does better vs. clubs that are more proficient at draining the mid-range shot. When playing squads that have an offensive mid-range field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 34.75%, Canisius performs above average 78% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 21% of the time.
