ANALYSIS:
They may not cause sleepless nights for opponents, but Butler, as a slightly above-average team, cannot be totally ignored. Carrying a record of 14-19, they are currently rated #138 overall (out of 358) in All-Play Percentage this season. Of the 11 schools in the Big East (average ranking 66.1), they're currently ranked as our #10 team in the conference. Sporting a strength-of-schedule rating of 0.715 (the 15th-highest in the country), Butler has prepared themselves by challenging some of the best teams in the college game.

If there is a strength for Butler this year, it's probably on the defensive end of the court. While preferring a more deliberate, half-court style of play (the 16th-slowest pace in D1), the team is rated 116th in defensive efficiency, allowing fewer than 98 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO. Butler has done a very good job to prevent opponents from draining threes this year. They rank 50th in the NCAA in defensive three-point percentage, allowing AO to make just 31.3% of their attempts from afar. If Butler does exhibit a noticeable weakness on the defensive end of the floor, it'd likely be the team's unwillingness to take risks in order to score fast points off of the opposition's turnovers. The squad only has a rating of 7.79 in potential points scored off of steals vs. AO, which ranks 23rd-worst in the college game.

Butler doesn't perform as well offensively as they do defensively. The team is ranked 193rd in offensive efficiency, scoring about 99 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. Butler won't enter the conversation if you're looking to list the best three-point shooting teams in the country. They are ranked 328th in three-point field goal percentage nationally and make just 30.7% of their attempts from long vs. AO. If Butler does have a strength offensively, it would have to be the team's care for the ball. The squad has a rating of 8.82 in potential points allowed off of steals vs. AO, which ranks 26th in the college game.

Butler has been one of the more erratic teams in NCAA basketball this year (presently ranked 333rd in the country in consistency), which makes forecasting the outcomes of their upcoming games tougher than most.
SORTABLE SCHEDULE / RESULTS:
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location.
Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Butler is typically worse vs. teams that tend to get off more shots. Against foes that have an offensive field goal attempt rate vs. AO greater than 86.32, Butler performs above their norm 22% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 73% of the time.
When facing teams that tend to allow more shots on the perimeter, Butler often performs worse than normal. Butler is more efficient than usual 22% of the time when facing teams that have a defensive shooting proximity score vs. AO greater than 2.05. In their other contests, Butler performs better than the norm 73% of the time.
Butler does worse vs. clubs that are typically efficient on offense. When playing squads that have an offensive efficiency rating vs. AO greater than 109.10, Butler performs above average 30% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 71% of the time.
