ANALYSIS:
Butler is a top-25 caliber squad that should be able to remain competitive with most, if not all, teams in the country. Their record this season is 25-9, and the club is ranked 25th overall (out of 351) in Haslametrics' most recent ratings. They are also ranked by this site as the #2 team (out of 10) in the Big East (average ranking 56.5). With a strength-of-schedule rating of 0.764 (which ranks 14th nationally), Butler is one of the more battle-tested teams in the college game.

Butler is one of the very most competent offensive teams in the country. Ranked 16th in offensive efficiency, they'll rack up more than 116 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Butler is an outstanding shooting team, capable of converting from a variety of locations on the floor and ranking in the top-50 in each of our four most noteworthy field goal categories. Though they're most successful shooting the mid-range jumper (42.1% vs. AO, eighth in the country), the team also makes 38.8% of their three-pointers (31st), 68.2% of their near-proximity chances (11th), and 49.0% of their total shots from the field (18th) vs. AO. Butler also allows very few breakaway opportunities for the opposition, which typically translates to fewer turnovers. The team's rating vs. AO for potential breakaway points allowed off of steals is 8.30, which ranks #22 in the country. If Butler does have a glaring weakness offensively, it would have to be the team's difficulties obtaining second-chance opportunities from offensive rebounds. The squad only has a rating of 9.21 vs. AO in potential points off of second chances, which ranks ninth-worst in college hoops.

Butler plays at roughly the same level defensively as they do offensively. The team ranks 49th nationally in defensive efficiency, allowing about 94 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Butler does a super job to deny opponents offensive rebounds and second chances. They have a rating of 11.61 vs. AO in potential points allowed off of second chances (ranked 14th in the country), and they allow AO to convert just 5.2% of their second-chance opportunities (ranked 35th) as well. Butler also does an outstanding job shutting down the opposition from behind the arc. They rank 18th in the NCAA in defensive three-point percentage, allowing AO to make just 31.0% of their attempts from afar.
