ANALYSIS: If you see Oral Roberts on the schedule, you will likely get one of the average to below-average teams in college hoops. They have a record of 19-15 and are ranked 229th overall (out of 351) in the latest Haslametrics ratings. They are also ranked by this site as the #6 team (out of nine) in the Summit League (average ranking 213.2).
If there is a strength for Oral Roberts this year, it's probably on the offensive end of the court. The team is rated 171st in offensive efficiency, scoring more than 100 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. Oral Roberts does a super job in their efforts to get to the free throw line. With a free throw attempt rate of 33.90 vs. AO, they are ranked 23rd in the nation at getting to the charity stripe, where the team shoots a rather mediocre 71.3%. Oral Roberts also loves taking the mid-range two, far more so than most other teams. The club is ranked 24th in ratio of mid-range attempts to total field goal attempts. If you do allow them to take that in-between shot, they can certainly make it, too. Currently rated in the top-75 in mid-range shooting percentage, they make roughly 37.6% of their attempts from that distance vs. AO.
The defense for Oral Roberts, on the other hand, isn't nearly as efficient as the offense is. The team is ranked 298th in defensive efficiency, allowing about 107 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. Oral Roberts does a very lackluster job preventing opponents from draining threes. They rank 315th nationally in defensive three-point percentage, allowing AO to make 37.8% of their attempts from afar. Luckily, AO will take nowhere near as many threes as they typically would, and only 30.4% of AO's field goal attempts will come from downtown. Oral Roberts has also done a lackluster job this year when defending the mid-range shot. The squad is ranked 313th nationally in defensive mid-range field goal percentage, allowing AO to make good on 39.2% of their attempts from those in-between spots on the floor.
When playing on the road, Oral Roberts performs somewhat worse than they normally do on their home court. The club is nationally ranked 309th in our site's away-from-home metric.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Oral Roberts is typically worse vs. teams that convert well from the charity stripe. Against foes that have an adjusted free throw percentage vs. AO greater than 72.16%, Oral Roberts performs above their norm 33% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 82% of the time.
When facing teams that are likely to allow more second chances off of offensive rebounds, Oral Roberts often performs worse than normal. Oral Roberts is more efficient than usual 27% of the time when facing teams that have a defensive second-chance potential point rate vs. AO greater than 15.02. In their other contests, Oral Roberts performs better than the norm 76% of the time.
Oral Roberts does worse vs. clubs that allow more chances at the line. When playing squads that have a defensive free throw attempt rate vs. AO greater than 25.73, Oral Roberts performs above average 46% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 90% of the time.
