Ranked 33rd overall (out of 353) in our most recent ratings, they presently have a record of 20-15. They are also ranked by this site as the #7 team (out of 14) in the Big Ten (average ranking 36.2). Sporting a strength-of-schedule rating of 0.757 (the 15th-highest in the country), Ohio State has prepared themselves by challenging some of the best teams in the college game.
The primary strength for Ohio State is defense. The team is ranked 29th in efficiency, allowing fewer than 95 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Ohio State does a super job to deny opponents offensive rebounds and second chances. They have a rating of 10.44 vs. AO in potential points allowed off of second chances (ranked eighth in the country), and they allow AO to convert just 4.4% of their second-chance opportunities (ranked 25th) as well. Ohio State also boasts one of the better overall defensive field goal percentages in the country. The team ranks #47 nationally in field goal percentage allowed, as AO only makes good on about 41.0% of their total attempts from the floor.
Ohio State plays at about the same level on offense as they do on defense. The team ranks 61st nationally in offensive efficiency, scoring about 110 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Ohio State is one of the nation's most effective teams finishing close to the iron. The team is ranked 25th in the country in near-proximity field goal percentage, making approximately 65.7% of their attempts from up-close vs. AO. However, even with their high conversion rate on near-proximity attempts, this team usually settles for shots from longer distances. Only about 33.0% of their total attempts vs. AO are from the inside. Ohio State also converts a fair amount of its free throws. Making 74.8% of their attempts from the stripe, they are ranked 59th nationally in free throw percentage. Moreover, they get ample opportunity to beat you from the line, as the ball-club falls in the top-100 in free throw attempt rate with a rating of 27.97 vs. AO.
Ohio State has definitely not been as efficient as of late compared to earlier in the season and, consequently, the team is nationally ranked 329th in positive momentum.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
