ANALYSIS: As one of the worst teams in NCAA basketball, AR-Pine Bluff should be a pushover for the average-to-good squads in Division I. They have a record of 4-21 and are ranked second from the bottom overall (out of 357) in the latest Haslametrics ratings. Of the 10 schools in the SWAC (average ranking 326.5), they're currently ranked as our #9 team in the conference.
AR-Pine Bluff has a very sieve-like defense that gives up points way too easily. The team is ranked second from the bottom in efficiency on that end of the court and gives up more than 115 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. AR-Pine Bluff allows opposing teams far too many easy chances from the floor, ranking in the bottom-50 in three of the four main defensive field goal shooting categories. AO will convert a healthy 40.0% of their three-pointers (second from the bottom in the nation), 65.2% of their near-proximity attempts (331st), and 49.5% of their total shots from the field (seventh from the bottom). AR-Pine Bluff is also one of the very worst teams in the game when it comes to preventing opponents from scoring off of offensive rebounds. The team allows AO to convert 6.9% of all second-chance opportunities (336th nationally), and with a rating of 15.05, they're 312th in potential points surrendered off of the offensive boards as well.
Sadly, AR-Pine Bluff is almost as terrible on the offensive end of the floor as they are on the defensive end of it. Scoring roughly 83 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #349 in the nation in offensive efficiency. AR-Pine Bluff shoots dreadfully from the floor and ranks in the bottom-25 in three of our four major field goal shooting categories. They only convert 29.0% of their three-pointers (343rd in the nation), 51.7% of their near-proximity attempts (340th), and 38.1% of their total shots from the field (ninth from the bottom) vs. AO. AR-Pine Bluff also does a terrible job to take advantage of scoring chances off of offensive rebounds. Against AO, the team converts only 2.9% of all second-chance opportunities (344th nationally). AR-Pine Bluff lastly has some difficulty protecting the ball efficiently when in possession, which leads to some quick and easy baskets for the opposition. The team's rating for potential breakaway points allowed off of steals vs. AO is 14.14, which ranks 332nd in D1.
AR-Pine Bluff has been playing much better basketball as of late and is presently ranked fourth in positive momentum because of it. AR-Pine Bluff has also been one of the more erratic teams in NCAA basketball this year (presently ranked 327th in the country in consistency), which makes forecasting the outcomes of their upcoming games tougher than most.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
