ANALYSIS: Akron is a fairly decent basketball team that, while likely better than average, isn't quite good enough to crack any top-25 rankings this year. Ranked 120th overall (out of 357) in our most recent ratings, they presently have a record of 15-8. They are also ranked by this site as the #4 team (out of 12) in the MAC (average ranking 193.1).
Akron has a reasonably potent offensive attack. Occupying the #86 slot in our offensive efficiency rankings, they will score about 105 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Akron allows very few breakaway opportunities for the opposition, which typically translates to fewer turnovers. The team's rating vs. AO for potential breakaway points allowed off of steals is 7.09, which ranks #4 in the country. Akron will also make a concerted effort to fire off quite a few three-pointers each game. The team ranks 27th in ratio of three-point attempts to total field goal attempts. When it comes to actually making their three-point attempts, the squad shoots a so-so 34.4% from beyond the arc vs. AO.
Akron doesn't perform as well defensively as they do offensively. The team is ranked 180th in defensive efficiency, allowing about 100 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. Akron does a pretty inadequate job to provide chances for themselves to score quickly off of steals. They're ranked #330 in potential points off of breakaway steals with a rating of only 7.90 vs. AO.
Akron has been one of the more erratic teams in NCAA basketball this year (presently ranked 325th in the country in consistency), which makes forecasting the outcomes of their upcoming games tougher than most.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
When facing teams that are likely to allow more second chances off of offensive rebounds, Akron often performs better than normal. Akron is more efficient than usual 82% of the time when facing teams that have a defensive second-chance potential point rate vs. AO greater than 12.69. In their other contests, Akron performs better than the norm 30% of the time.
Akron does worse vs. clubs that have trouble defending the mid-range shot. When playing squads that have a defensive mid-range field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 37.64%, Akron performs above average 42% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 78% of the time.
Akron performs worse against squads that allow a greater number of field goal opportunities. When facing teams that have a defensive field goal attempt rate vs. AO greater than 83.30, Akron is more efficient than normal 42% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 78% of the time.
