ANALYSIS: Not one of the better ball-clubs in college basketball, Montana State should be a fairly easy win for most capable opponents. They have a record of 7-23 and are ranked 320th overall (out of 351) in the latest Haslametrics ratings. They are also ranked by this site as the worst team (out of 12) in the Big Sky (average ranking 243.3).
Offense is not the strong suit when it comes to Montana State. The team is ranked 316th in offensive efficiency and scores fewer than 91 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Montana State will have a really tough time winning games when taking into consideration their shooting percentage near the basket. The team is ranked eighth from the bottom in near-proximity field goal percentage, making only 49.2% of their attempts from up-close vs. AO. Moreover, they find themselves in the bottom-25 in overall offensive field goal percentage, converting just 38.5% of their total attempts vs. AO. Montana State also does an extremely poor job drawing fouls and getting to the free throw line. With a free throw attempt rate of just 23.05 vs. AO, they are 340th in the overall rankings for that category.
Montana State doesn't rate much better on defense than they do on offense. Allowing roughly 109 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #315 in the nation in defensive efficiency. Montana State is extremely underskilled to force steals that turn into quick and easy points. They're ranked #351 in potential points off of breakaway steals with a rating of only 6.42 vs. AO. Montana State also does an extremely poor job to deny the opposition behind the arc. They rank 335th nationally in defensive three-point percentage, allowing AO to make 38.4% of their attempts from afar.
Montana State has been one of the more erratic teams in NCAA basketball this year (presently ranked 321st in the country in consistency), which makes forecasting the outcomes of their upcoming games tougher than most.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
