ANALYSIS: While this site doesn't quite consider them to be in the national title hunt, Ole Miss has the potential to be a formidable opponent for many in Division I. Haslametrics has them ranked 71st overall (out of 351) in All-Play Percentage, and the team holds a record of 22-14. They are also ranked by this site as the #10 team (out of 14) in the SEC (average ranking 63.3).
While favoring a very up-tempo style of play (the 24th-fastest pace in D1), the primary strength for Ole Miss this year is offense. The team is ranked 67th in efficiency on that end of the floor, and they'll rack up more than 107 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO. Ole Miss does a super job in their efforts to get to the free throw line. With a free throw attempt rate of 32.41 vs. AO, they are ranked 22nd in the nation at getting to the charity stripe. In addition, the team is in the top-50 in free throw shooting, converting a solid 75.3% of their attempts. Ole Miss has also established itself as a team that cleans the offensive glass quite well. Against AO, the squad has a rating of 17.61 in potential points scored off of second chances (ranked 31st in the NCAA), and they convert 8.5% of their second-chance opportunities (ranked 35th) as well.
Ole Miss plays at roughly the same level defensively as they do offensively. The team ranks 80th nationally in defensive efficiency, allowing about 97 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Ole Miss does a bang-up job preventing the opposition from draining jumpers in between the three-point line and the low post. They're ranked ninth in Division I in defensive mid-range field goal percentage, allowing AO to make good on only 31.4% of their attempts from that distance. Due to this fact, AO will take nowhere near as many mid-range shots as they typically would and, as a result, only 24.1% of AO's field goal attempts will come from those in-between locations. Ole Miss also does a pretty solid job providing themselves chances to score quickly off of steals. They're ranked 31st in potential points off of breakaway steals vs. AO with a rating of 13.72.
On the road, Ole Miss performs somewhat better than their norm, as the squad is nationally ranked 48th in our away-from-home metric.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
When playing teams that convert well from outside the arc, Ole Miss usually performs better than average. Ole Miss is more efficient than normal 82% of the time when facing clubs that have an offensive three-point field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 37.15%. In all other contests, Ole Miss performs better than average 48% of the time.
