Carrying a record of 20-15, they are currently rated #17 overall (out of 362) in All-Play Percentage this season. They are also ranked by this site as the #3 team (out of 14) in the Big Ten (average ranking 54.7). With a strength-of-schedule rating of 0.741 (which ranks sixth nationally), Michigan State is one of the more battle-tested teams in the college game.
The Michigan State defense will be extremely problematic for most opposing offenses. Allowing about 92 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO, the club is ranked eighth overall in defensive efficiency. They allow AO to make just 31.5% of their three-pointers (30th in the nation), 35.4% of their mid-range shots (36th), 53.1% of their near-proximity attempts (40th), and 39.1% of their total shots from the field (11th). Michigan State also does a super job to deny opponents offensive rebounds and second chances. They have a rating of 10.94 vs. AO in potential points allowed off of second chances (ranked 23rd in the country), and they allow AO to convert just 4.3% of their second-chance opportunities (ranked 40th) as well.
Michigan State plays at about the same level on offense as they do on defense. The team ranks 37th nationally in offensive efficiency, scoring about 115 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. They convert 37.3% of their three-pointers (30th in the nation), 65.0% of their near-proximity attempts (20th), and 47.3% of their total shots from the field (44th) vs. AO. Michigan State is also one of the very best when it comes to maximizing field goal opportunities. The team is ranked 23rd in the NCAA in offensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 89.26 vs. AO.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
