ANALYSIS: They may not cause sleepless nights for opponents, but Northeastern, as a slightly above-average team, cannot be totally ignored. Ranked 125th overall (out of 353) in our most recent ratings, they presently have a record of 17-16. They are also ranked by this site as the #2 team (out of 10) in the Colonial (average ranking 199.8).
The primary strength for Northeastern this year is offense. The team is ranked 88th in efficiency on that end of the floor, and they'll rack up more than 103 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO. Northeastern is deadly accurate at the free throw line. Making 82.2% of their attempts from the stripe, they are ranked first nationally in free throw percentage. Unfortunately, with a free throw attempt rate of just 21.27 vs. AO, they don't provide themselves a whole lot of opportunities at the foul line. Northeastern is also one of the most accurate teams when shooting from long-distance. They're ranked 23rd nationally in three-point field goal percentage and make about 37.1% of their attempts from there vs. AO. The team likewise falls in the top-50 in overall offensive field goal percentage, converting about 46.3% of their attempts vs. AO. If Northeastern does have a glaring weakness offensively, it would have to be the team's difficulties obtaining second-chance opportunities from offensive rebounds. The squad only has a rating of 8.86 vs. AO in potential points off of second chances, which ranks tenth-worst in college hoops.
Northeastern is also a fairly decent team on the defensive end of the court. The team ranks 172nd nationally in defensive efficiency, allowing about 100 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Northeastern thrives on scoring fast and easy points off of steals. They're ranked 16th in potential points off of breakaway steals vs. AO with a rating of 15.06. If Northeastern does exhibit a weakness on the defensive end of the floor, it'd likely be the team's difficulties stopping opponents from converting from the inside. AO will convert 64.7% of their near-proximity field goal attempts, and the team ranks 32nd-worst in that category as a result.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
