ANALYSIS: Bradley has a squad that most likely falls somewhere in the bottom half of NCAA Division I teams this year. They have a record of 9-24 and are ranked 247th overall (out of 351) in the latest Haslametrics ratings. Of the 10 schools in the MVC (average ranking 149.4), they're currently ranked as our #9 team in the conference.
If there is a strength for Bradley this year, it's probably on the defensive end of the court. The team is rated 116th in defensive efficiency, allowing fewer than 99 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO. Bradley has extremely pesky defenders that ceaselessly attempt to deny opponents ample opportunity to shoot. The club is ranked 13th in Division I in defensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 76.49 vs. AO. Bradley is also one of the better teams when it comes to not allowing opponents to convert scoring chances off of offensive rebounds. The squad allows AO to convert only 5.0% of all second-chance opportunities (ranked 26th in the NCAA).
Unfortunately, Bradley is not even remotely close to being as good on offense as they are on defense. The team is ranked 313th in offensive efficiency, scoring about 91 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. Bradley struggles to drain shots consistently from most spots on the floor, ranking in the bottom-50 in three of the four primary field goal shooting categories. They only convert 30.1% of their three-pointers (330th in the nation), 53.2% of their near-proximity attempts (307th), and 37.7% of their total shots from the field (340th) vs. AO. Bradley is also one of the more deficient teams in the nation as it pertains to scoring off of offensive rebounds. Against AO, the team converts only 5.2% of all second-chance opportunities (302nd nationally).
Bradley is one of the most consistent teams in NCAA basketball (currently ranked 19th in consistency), which makes the outcomes of their upcoming games far easier to predict.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Bradley performs worse against squads that typically allow more than a fair share of breakaway opportunities. When facing teams that have a potential point rate allowed off steals vs. AO greater than 11.94, Bradley is more efficient than normal 18% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 57% of the time.
When playing teams that find ways to get to the free throw line, Bradley usually performs better than average. Bradley is more efficient than normal 67% of the time when facing clubs that have an offensive free throw attempt rate vs. AO greater than 30.78. In all other contests, Bradley performs better than average 30% of the time.
