ANALYSIS: If you're looking for a squad in the bottom quartile of all Division I basketball teams this year, Idaho likely fits the bill. Ranked 306th overall (out of 362) in our most recent ratings, they presently have a record of 11-21. They are also ranked by this site as the #9 team (out of 10) in the Big Sky (average ranking 227.4).
Idaho will certainly not be one of the stingier defenses opponents will encounter. Allowing more than 111 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked down at #312 in defensive efficiency. Idaho is extremely underskilled to force steals that turn into quick and easy points. They're ranked #355 in potential points off of breakaway steals with a rating of only 7.14 vs. AO. Idaho also does a very lackluster job preventing opponents from draining threes. They rank 325th nationally in defensive three-point percentage, allowing AO to make 36.9% of their attempts from afar.
Idaho doesn't rate much better on offense than they do on defense. Scoring roughly 99 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #285 in the nation in offensive efficiency. Idaho does an extremely poor job drawing fouls and getting to the free throw line. With a free throw attempt rate of just 21.20 vs. AO, they are 344th in the overall rankings for that category. Idaho also does a fairly poor job cleaning the offensive glass. Against AO, the ball-club has a rating of 10.39 in potential points scored off of second chances (323rd nationally).
Idaho has been playing some of their worst basketball of the season as of late, and they're presently ranked 349th in positive momentum because of it.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Idaho is typically better vs. teams that aren't terribly skilled defensively. Against foes that have a defensive efficiency rating vs. AO greater than 109.22, Idaho performs above their norm 80% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 30% of the time.
When facing teams that allow opponents to shoot well from the field, Idaho often performs better than normal. Idaho is more efficient than usual 71% of the time when facing teams that have a defensive field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 45.91%. In their other contests, Idaho performs better than the norm 25% of the time.
Idaho does better vs. clubs that allow a higher number of conversions off of the offensive glass. When playing squads that have a defensive second-chance conversion percentage vs. AO greater than 4.98%, Idaho performs above average 61% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 25% of the time.
