ANALYSIS: This website places Boise State in the top 25% of all NCAA college basketball teams this year. Haslametrics has them ranked 82nd overall (out of 351) in All-Play Percentage, and the team holds a record of 20-12. Of the 11 schools in the MWC (average ranking 131.3), they're currently ranked as our #2 team in the conference.
Boise State has a reasonably potent offensive attack. Occupying the #84 slot in our offensive efficiency rankings, they will score about 107 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Boise State does a super job in their efforts to get to the free throw line. With a free throw attempt rate of 32.31 vs. AO, they are ranked 24th in the nation at getting to the charity stripe, where the team shoots a rather mediocre 71.2%. Boise State also has a keen ability to drain field goals between the three-point line and the low post. The squad is ranked 44th nationally in mid-range field goal percentage, making about 39.6% of their attempts from those locations vs. AO. However, even with their high conversion rate on mid-range attempts, this team usually settles for shots from other spots on the floor. Only about 25.9% of their overall attempts vs. AO are from those in-between locations. If Boise State does have a weakness offensively, it would have to be the team's difficulties obtaining second-chance opportunities from offensive rebounds. The squad only has a rating of 11.98 vs. AO in potential points off of second chances, which ranks 49th-worst in college hoops.
Boise State plays at roughly the same level defensively as they do offensively. The team ranks 109th nationally in defensive efficiency, allowing about 99 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Boise State has been able to successfully prevent opponents from making shots between the three-point stripe and the low post. They're ranked 48th in Division I in defensive mid-range field goal percentage, allowing AO to make good on only 33.3% of their attempts from that distance. To capitalize on that weakness, this team will make AO shoot from mid-range locations more than they usually would. Of AO's total field goals, a large portion of them (36.3%) will be from mid-range. Boise State also owns a pretty good track record against teams that shoot the three. They rank 63rd in the NCAA in defensive three-point percentage, allowing AO to make just 33.1% of their attempts from afar. For this reason, AO takes nowhere near as many threes as they typically would -- just 32.3% of AO's field goal attempts will be from downtown.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:

Boise State is more efficient than usual 20% of the time when facing teams that have an offensive field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 44.93%. In their other contests, Boise State performs better than the norm 63% of the time.
Boise State does better vs. clubs that allow opponents to shoot well from the field.
