ANALYSIS: While this site doesn't quite consider them to be in the national title hunt, Florida has the potential to be a formidable opponent for many in Division I. They have a record of 24-12 and are ranked 33rd overall (out of 362) in the latest Haslametrics ratings. Of the 14 schools in the SEC (average ranking 62.8), they're currently ranked as our #5 team in the conference.
Utilizing a very up-tempo style of play (the 18th-fastest pace in D1), Florida is one of the very most competent offensive teams in the country. Ranked 18th in offensive efficiency, they'll rack up more than 118 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Florida does a super job in their efforts to get to the free throw line. With a free throw attempt rate of 31.70 vs. AO, they are ranked 16th in the nation at getting to the charity stripe, where the team shoots a rather mediocre 71.3%. Florida also appears to be one of the top-notch offensive rebounding teams you will find this year. Against AO, the squad has a rating of 17.81 in potential points scored off of second chances (ranked 17th in the NCAA), and they convert 7.3% of their second-chance opportunities (ranked 33rd) as well. Florida is lastly one of the very best when it comes to maximizing field goal opportunities. The team is ranked 24th in the NCAA in offensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 89.25 vs. AO. And when they do shoot, they make a fair portion of their shots. Ranked in the top-75 in field goal shooting percentage, the squad converts about 47.1% of their total attempts vs. AO.
Florida is also a fairly decent team on the defensive end of the court. The team ranks 78th nationally in defensive efficiency, allowing about 100 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Florida has done a really good job this year to prevent opponents from making shots from the inside. They are ranked 35th in the country in defensive near-proximity percentage, allowing AO to make good on only 52.8% of their attempts from close-up. Florida has also done a very good job to prevent opponents from draining threes this year. They rank 41st in the NCAA in defensive three-point percentage, allowing AO to make just 31.9% of their attempts from afar. For this reason, AO takes nowhere near as many threes as they typically would -- just 32.3% of AO's field goal attempts will be from downtown.
When playing on the road, Florida performs somewhat worse than they normally do on their home court. The club is nationally ranked 323rd in our site's away-from-home metric.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
