ANALYSIS:
If you're looking for a squad in the bottom quartile of all Division I basketball teams this year, American likely fits the bill. Their record this season is 10-22, and the club is ranked 339th overall (out of 358) in Haslametrics' most recent ratings. They are also ranked by this site as the #9 team (out of 10) in the Patriot League (average ranking 275.3). With a strength-of-schedule rating of 0.262 (which ranks 346th in the nation), American has faced some of the easiest opponents in all of college basketball.

American is not one of the better offensive teams you will find. They are rated #329 in efficiency on that end of the court and only score about 91 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO. American tends to be very careless with the ball and allows far too many breakaway opportunities off of their own turnovers. The team's rating for potential breakaway points allowed off of steals vs. AO is 14.78, which ranks seventh from the bottom in D1. American also does a terrible job to take advantage of scoring chances off of offensive rebounds. Against AO, the team converts only 3.0% of all second-chance opportunities (344th nationally), and with a rating of 10.24, they're 326th in potential points scored off of the offensive boards as well.

American doesn't rate much better on defense than they do on offense. Allowing roughly 108 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #315 in the nation in defensive efficiency. American performs really badly when attempting to stop opponents from making mid-range jumpers. The squad is ranked second from the bottom nationally in defensive mid-range field goal percentage, allowing AO to make good on 47.0% of their attempts from those in-between spots on the floor. American is also one of the very worst teams in the country in terms of overall defensive field goal percentage. The ball-club ranks #343 nationally in field goal percentage allowed, as AO will convert approximately 47.9% of their total attempts from the floor. American is lastly extremely underskilled to force steals that turn into quick and easy points. They're ranked #335 in potential points off of breakaway steals with a rating of only 7.85 vs. AO.

American has been playing much better basketball as of late and is presently ranked 19th in positive momentum because of it.
SORTABLE SCHEDULE / RESULTS:
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location.
Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
American is typically worse vs. teams that are typically efficient on offense. Against foes that have an offensive efficiency rating vs. AO greater than 96.93, American performs above their norm 10% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 86% of the time.
When facing teams that shoot the ball well from the field, American often performs worse than normal. American is more efficient than usual 46% of the time when facing teams that have an offensive field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 40.67%. In their other contests, American performs better than the norm 100% of the time.
American does worse vs. clubs that convert well from outside the arc. When playing squads that have an offensive three-point field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 33.86%, American performs above average 31% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 84% of the time.
